The classics tell us that, in relationships, the one between teacher and student comes second only to the one between parent and child.

About This Quote

This quote is about the relationship between a woman and a man who has been her mentor and is now in a position of authority over her. She takes on the role of pupil and he the role of teacher with all that this entails. While it wouldn't be unusual for a teacher to feel that he had to try to dominate his pupils, in such a situation the pupil is at an advantage because she knows something that the male teacher doesn't. If he tries to dominate and intimidate her with his knowledge and power, she will use this against him and use it in ways to get more out of him than she would otherwise. She will also use it to learn more so that when they meet again, she can use it in ways to get more from him than she would otherwise.
